The three costs to plan for

Getting an SIA licence involves three separate payments: training with an SIA Approved centre, the SIA application fee, and an identity/criminality check. Some applicants also need Emergency First Aid at Work training on top.

1. Training fees

Training is the biggest variable. Prices in London range widely between providers. Our own published prices are set out on each course page and are the single source of truth — book directly and there are no hidden fees or upsells.

  • SIA Door Supervisor — see /courses/sia-door-supervisor for the current all-inclusive price and duration.
  • SIA CCTV Operator — see /courses/sia-cctv-operator.
  • SIA Security Guard — see /courses/sia-security-guard.
  • SIA Door Supervisor Refresher — see /courses/sia-door-supervisor-refresher.

2. SIA application fee

The SIA sets a national application fee for each front-line licence. The fee is reviewed by the SIA and changes from time to time. Rather than reproduce a figure that could go out of date, please check the current fee directly on the SIA's official 'Get Licensed' pages before you budget.

3. Identity and criminality check

Alongside the application fee, the SIA requires an enhanced identity and criminal record check. The current DBS charge is published on the SIA website and is charged separately from the licence fee.

4. First aid (Door Supervisor applicants)

Emergency First Aid at Work is mandatory for new Door Supervisor applications. On our Door Supervisor course this is included, so there is no separate fee. If you already hold a valid EFAW certificate you can use that instead — bring proof on day one and we'll confirm eligibility with your awarding body.

5. Renewal costs (every three years)

Renewal costs are: the SIA Refresher training, plus the SIA renewal fee, plus the identity check. See our SIA Licence Renewal guide for the current process.

Hidden costs to watch for elsewhere

  • 'From £X' prices that don't include EFAW, resits or all four Door Supervisor units.
  • Booking fees, admin fees or 'certificate release' fees added later.
  • Compulsory paid resits when the first-attempt pass rate is low.
  • Travel to a separate assessment venue — check whether assessments are on-site.

Budgeting tip

Add training + application fee + DBS + (if applicable) EFAW to get your realistic total. If a training price looks unusually low, ask what is not included before you book.
