Turn up to every session

Attendance is the biggest predictor of passing first time. Missed sessions mean missed content, and awarding bodies require full attendance for the practical units. Book time off in advance and plan travel from home to the venue.

Brush up your English

Assessments are in English. If English is your second language, spending a week reading news articles, watching UK TV with subtitles and practising written answers pays back tenfold on exam day.

Study habits that work

  • Read the candidate handbook before the course starts.
  • Do 15 minutes of revision the evening after each day.
  • Explain a topic out loud — if you can teach it, you know it.
  • Focus on the areas your trainer flags as commonly failed.

Physical intervention day

Physical Intervention is practical and hands-on. Wear comfortable trousers and a plain t-shirt, remove jewellery and let the instructor know about any injuries before you start. The techniques taught are low-impact and designed to keep everyone safe.

Conflict management

Focus on the process: recognise, defuse, resolve, report. Real answers describe a structured approach and end with post-incident support — not just 'I'd stay calm'.

Exam technique

  • Read every question fully before choosing an answer.
  • Rule out the two obviously-wrong options first.
  • Answer every question — there's no penalty for guessing.
  • Review your answers before you hand in the paper.

Resits

Our Door Supervisor course includes unlimited free resits — if you're not there yet on the day, we'll re-train you on the next available course. Ask your trainer to focus on your specific gap before you re-sit.

A note on integrity

We don't publish real controlled assessment questions and we don't reproduce copyrighted awarding-body exam papers. Preparation is about understanding the material, not memorising leaked questions.
