About this course
Our 1-day Handcuffing course is designed for SIA-licensed door supervisors, retail loss-prevention officers, close protection operatives and asset protection staff who need to safely apply and remove handcuffs in line with current UK legislation. The course covers the legal use of force (Sections 3 of the Criminal Law Act and Section 117 PACE), risk assessment, application and removal techniques, and aftercare. All training is hands-on with rigid and chain-link handcuffs.

Detailed syllabus
Legislation & Use of Force
Common law, Criminal Law Act 1967 s.3, PACE s.117, reasonable force, citizen's powers of arrest and post-incident reporting.
Application & Removal Techniques
Compliant and resistant subject application, double-locking, transport positions and safe removal techniques.
Risk Assessment & Aftercare
Positional asphyxia awareness, medical aftercare, monitoring of restrained subjects and handover to police.
Assessment
Continuous practical assessment by your instructor plus a short knowledge check.
Resits: Re-attendance available at a reduced rate.

- Hold a current SIA licence (Door Supervisor / Security Guard / CCTV / CP) OR work in retail loss prevention
- Aged 18 or over
- Valid photo ID
- Physically able to take part in practical handling drills
